Our Core Commitment: Absolute Offline Privacy

Expensgo is built strictly on an offline-first architecture. Your transactions, account balances, debt records, and payment reminders are stored solely on your device. We do not operate user accounts, we do not have remote servers collecting your data, and we do not sell or monetize personal information.

1. Information We Do NOT Collect

Unlike traditional personal finance apps, Expensgo does not require or collect:

  • No Identity Information: We do not ask for your real name, email address, phone number, or social media profiles.
  • No Bank Scraping: We never read your private SMS inbox, bank OTPs, or credit card transaction messages.
  • No Server Telemetry: We do not log your clicks, balance amounts, or device location on remote servers.

2. Data Stored Locally on Your Device

All information you input into Expensgo is saved exclusively in a secure, local SQLite database inside your phone's private app sandbox. This includes:

  • Account designations (e.g., Cash, HDFC Bank, Canara Bank, Credit Cards).
  • Income and expense entries, amounts, timestamps, and custom notes.
  • Borrower and lender records in the Debt Management ledger.
  • Scheduled reminder dates and recurrence settings.
  • Your local 4-digit security PIN.

3. Android Permissions & How They Are Used

Expensgo requests only the minimal necessary Android permissions to deliver core functionality:

  • USE_BIOMETRIC / USE_FINGERPRINT: Used solely to authenticate you locally via Android's native BiometricPrompt API. Your biometric data is processed by your device's hardware security module (Secure Element/TEE) and is never accessible to Expensgo.
  • POST_NOTIFICATIONS: Required on Android 13+ to display payment reminder notifications when due.
  • SCHEDULE_EXACT_ALARM: Used to schedule native alarms so bill reminders fire at the exact date and time you set, completely offline.
  • RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED: Allows the app to re-register your scheduled local reminders if your phone reboots or powers off.
  • INTERNET: Exclusively used if you explicitly choose to connect Google Drive to upload or download an encrypted backup file. If you do not use Google Drive, no internet connectivity is utilized.

4. Third-Party Services & Advertising

Expensgo contains zero third-party advertisement networks, zero tracking pixels, and zero commercial data broker libraries. We do not display ads, and we do not track you across apps or websites.

5. Backups & Data Portability

Because Expensgo does not store your records in the cloud, you maintain full responsibility and sovereignty over your backups:

  • Local Export: You can export your transaction history to formatted PDF reports or CSV spreadsheets at any time.
  • Google Drive Sync (Optional): If enabled, backup files are stored directly in your personal Google Drive storage. Expensgo has no access to your other Google files.

6. Data Deletion

You can delete all records at any time directly through the app settings or by clearing the app data in Android Settings. Uninstalling the app permanently erases the local database from your device.
